Expand your professional sphere of influence by becoming a MACA Director or Committee Member

The MACA General Membership will elect 2023-2024 Board of Directors on Monday, September 18 as part of the 2023 NEDC Expo at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City.  Board terms are for one-year. If you're interested in being considered for the MACA board of directors, or would like to learn more about what it means to serve, read more.

The Pitch: What's in it for you?

Are you seeking opportunities to meet and network with other industry professionals, build and hone leadership skills, and enhance you and your company’s reputation? What if you could do all of these things while also positively impacting your industry? Service on MACA’s Board of Directors provides these benefits, and much more.

Build your skill set: Strengthen current skills and learn new skills that you can add to your CV/Resume.

Build social capital: Add your service to your Linkedin profile and give your profile that burst of professional cachet you may be looking for.

Grow your network: Meet and collaborate with other passionate and talented professionals while serving on a board and make key contacts for the future.

Build your brand along with the nonprofit’s brand: Not only will your professional brand get a boost from serving as a board member, but you can build awareness and endorsements for MACA through board service.

Strengthen your industry: This is a no-brainer. Day in, day out, you're walking the walk and talking the talk.  As a decision maker at your company, you know all about legislation and regulations that work, and don't work. Lend your voice and insights to a professional network in order to make the industry stronger, fairer, and more profitable.

But wait... there's more!

However, it’s not simply a matter of volunteering whenever you have extra time, or showing up when it’s convenient. Serving on the MACA Board requires commitment.

Executing your responsibilities as Board member can be extremely rewarding, but consider the following when making your decision:

1. Time – Bi-monthly Board calls, as well as periodic committee calls. You will likely be asked to commit to attending a certain number of full Board meetings per year, and participate on at least one committee.

2.  Mission– You should be passionate about the organization’s mission and services; otherwise, you will not be motivated to work as hard as you should to meet your commitments.

3. Culture – A nonprofit is very different from a for-profit business, and you may be surprised (and a bit frustrated) by how its limited resources affects the Board’s ability to address certain issues and opportunities. You should consider how you can adapt to this kind of culture.

MACA board members are available to discuss board service expectations with potential Board members up front to ensure they are an appropriate match. In many cases, new members will be asked to formally commit to certain levels of support.

If elected by the general membership to the board, you are joining other professionals who have made the commitment and are working hard to deliver.

We hope you make the choice to give back to your profession.  Download the Board Candidate Interest packet, or telephone (717) 730-9745 to learn more.
